Santa Maria PAL and the City of Santa Maria are hosting a Junior Giants Program for the first time this summer. Junior Giants is a free non-competitive co-ed baseball league (governed under the San Francisco Giants) for underprivileged youth between the ages of 5-13. Working together with local agencies, families and volunteers, Junior Giants reaches into communities and offers youth a chance to learn the basics of baseball while also discovering the importance of essential life skills. Junior Giants gives youth the opportunity to participate in a recreation activity without cost. It gives them a chance to be active during the summer.
Junior Giants was established in 1994 and serves over 25,000 youth in around 90 leagues through out California, Nevada and Oregon. Junior Giants is more than just baseball and offers several distinct programs to further enrich a player's experience. Players learn the Junior Giants Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork, as well as the importance of Health, Education and Bullying Prevention.
